The FibreCycle project aims to develop processes for recovering and recycling carbon fibre and reusing it in high value products.

The approach involves recovering carbon fibre from all stages of manufacture and developing reprocessing techniques within a representative supply chain. The benefits of the project will be the recovery of high value carbon fibres from waste, reduction of landfill, addressing material supply shortages, lower cost carbon fibre feedstock and novel property combinations. The project started in June 2007 and will take 3 years to complete. It involves 6 UK partners; 5 industrial partners and 1 university and has a total value of £1.5M.

This project is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board's Collaborative Research and Development programme, following an open competition. The Technology Strategy Board is an executive body established by the Government to drive innovation. It promotes and invests in research, development and the exploitation of science, technology and new ideas for the benefit of business - increasing sustainable economic growth in the UK and improving quality of life.
